Once upon a time area code 305 was used for all of the cities in Florida, but now it is reserved for Miami residents. Due to massive population increases in the state of Florida, area code 786 was added as an overlay in 1998. Currently, Miami residents use either the 786 or the 305 area code, while the rest of Florida now uses other area codes. Lucky residents in parts of the Florida Keys are also privileged to use the 305 area code while the 786 area code is reserved for the mainland.

The Miami area code is known for its amazing nightlife, striking skyline, beautiful beaches, world class cuisine, and diverse population. As a capital of culture, Miami sits in one of the most populous counties in the United States. Latin American Corporations have a particularly large presence in the 305 area code. For instance, record labels such as Universal Music Latin Entertainment and Sony Music Latin are headquartered in Miami.

The Miami Beach area code is known for its eclectic music scene. It is an easy task to find an excellent salsa club in either Downtown Brickell or South Beach. Miami clubs such as Liv, Mansion, Cameo, and Set offer various kinds of music such as electronic and house.
