Parma is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and is an inner-ring suburb of Cleveland. Going back in history, the area was surveyed by the Connecticut Land Company in 1806 and the first settlers arrived in 1816. The town was known as Greenbriar until 1826, when the town was renamed Parma, after Parma, Italy. Parma was largely agricultural until it was incorporated as a village in 1924. Parma was incorporated as a city in 1931 and after World War II, experienced tremendous growth. Parma is a great city to reside in because there is minimal criminal activity. Parma is home to The Shoppes at Parma, a regional shopping center that features specialty retailers and a wide variety of dining options. Since there are not many points of interests in Parma, residents and tourists go to nearby Cleveland for activities and entertainment.

Lorain is a city in Lorain County, Ohio, and is situated on Lake Erie, at the mouth of the Black River. Located roughly 30 miles west of Cleveland, Lorain is part of Greater Cleveland. Lorain is home to the Charles Berry Bridge, the second largest bascule bridge in the world. With over 55 different nationalities living in Lorain, the city has been nicknamed “The International City.”

Every summer, residents and tourists look forward to the Lorain International Festival, a weeklong festival that celebrates various nationalities through food, music, and costume. Elyria is a city in Ohio and is the county seat of Lorain County. Elyria is situated at the forks of the Black River and is part of Greater Cleveland. Going back in history, Herman Ely founded the village of Elyria along the Black River in 1817. Ely built many houses to accommodate the influx of European American settlers. When Ely died in 1852, Elyria had a population of more than 1,500. By the first half of the 20th century, Elyria had a population of 8,000 and the town developed manufacturing and retail businesses. The Elyria Memorial Hospital was built in 1908 and the Midway Mall opened in 1967. By the end of the 20th century, Elyria experienced economic stagnation and joblessness when three major car plants closed. Today Elyria has a population of 54,533 and the racial makeup of the city is 78.1% White, 15.5% African American, 4.9% Hispanic, and 0.8% Asian (2010 Census). Unfortunately Elyria is a dangerous city to reside in. When it comes to parks and recreation, Elyria is home to four recreational centers and two main parks, Cascade and Elywood.

Mentor is a city in Lake County, Ohio, and is situated on the south shore of Lake Erie. Mentor is a suburb of Cleveland and is named after the Greek figure Mentor. Charles Barker founded Mentor in the late 18th century. Mentor is best known for being the temporary home of James A. Garfield; it was in Mentor that Garfield conducted the first successful front porch campaign for presidency. Mentor has a population of 47,159 and the racial makeup of the city is 96.3% White, 1.4% Asian, 1.3% Hispanic, and 1.0% African American (2010 Census). The low crime rate makes Mentor a safe city to reside in. Due to the number of bicyclists in Mentor, many bike paths have recently been built. Points of interest in the city include James A. Garfield National Historic Site, Headlands Beach State Park, Great Lakes Mall, and Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve.
