Tulsa is the second most populous city in Oklahoma and the 47th most populous city in the United States. Tulsa is the principal municipality of the Tulsa Metropolitan Area and is the county seat of Tulsa County. Tulsa is located in northeast Oklahoma on the Arkansas River; this region is known as “Green Country” and is noted for its mild rainy climate and beautiful scenery. Going back in history, Tulsa started off as Indian Territory when the Lochapoka and Creek tribes settled the area in 1836. A log cabin trading post was built in 1846 and the first post office opened in 1879. When the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad arrived in 1882, Tulsa was a trading post and cattle town. The land was officially opened for settlement in 1892 and the city of Tulsa was incorporated in 1899. The discovery of oil in 1901 turned Tulsa into a boomtown; the city was known as the “Oil Capital of the World” for most of the 20th century. During the early 20th century, Greenwood, a neighborhood in Tulsa, was known as America’s “ Black Wall Street” because it was one of the most prosperous black communities in the United States. The Tulsa race riot of 1921 occurred in Greenwood and was one of the nation’s worst acts of racial violence. Tulsa became known as the “Birthplace of Route 66” in 1925.
Downtown Tulsa is the city’s financial and business district and is home to a collection of large art deco structures such as the Philtower and the Mid-Continent Tower. The oil industry was the core of Tulsa’s economy until the city experienced economic downturn. Now the economy has diversified to include energy, finance, aviation, and technology. Tulsa is home to the Oral Roberts University and the University of Tulsa. Annual festivals in the city include the Blue Dome Arts Festival, the Center of the Universe Festival, and the Tulsa International Mayfest. Points of interest in the city include the Philbrook Museum of Art, the Gilcrease Museum, the BOK Center, the Woody Guthrie Center, the Tulsa Zoo, the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, and the Tulsa Air and Space Museum.

Bartlesville is a city in Oklahoma and is the county seat of Washington County. Bartlesville is 47 miles north of Tulsa while the Caney River runs through the city. Bartlesville has a humid subtropical climate and lies in Tornado Alley. Going back in history, Jacob Bartles moved to Indian Territory in 1873 and opened a trading post and post office the following year. In 1875, he bought a gist mill on the Caney River and then built a general store and residence. Settlers soon moved into the area, which was at the time called Bartles Town. Development of Bartlesville started in 1884 when a general store on the south side of the Caney River was opened. Bartlesville was surveyed and platted in 1898 and the railroad reached the town in 1899. Today Bartlesville has a population of 35,750 and the racial makeup of the city is 79.0% White, 5.9% Hispanic, 3.1% African American, and 1.4% Asian (2010 Census).
