Area code 972 can be found in Texas serving most of the eastern portion of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. Area code 972 was put into effect in 1995 and was created from a split of area code 214. In 1999, area codes 214 and 972 were merged, with area code 972 converted into an overlay; area code 469 was also introduced as an overlay.

When it comes to cuisine, Dallas is famous for barbecue and authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine.
